Ravencoin — Wen Coinbase?
This is a common question I’m asked. My answer… I’m not sure, but I hope soon.
There are certainly lots of good reasons for Coinbase to list $RVN.
First, it's a platform, not just a crypto-currency. This means the usage has the potential to rival Ethereum. Ravencoin doesn’t have smart contracts, but it does tokens, and NFTs much better and built into the core protocol.
Second, it has been running 24x7x365 for a little over three and a half years. It has a track record.
Third, RVN is a commodity like Bitcoin, and because of Ravencoin’s fair launch, there wasn’t’ a pre-mine, a dev set-aside, or an ICO. Even though this project was launched during the peak of the ICO craze, there was no fundraising done using the RVN token. This helps make RVN one of the cleanest projects around when evaluated against the SECs rules for what constitutes a security. There’s even a legal document from Ravencoin’s early days which demonstrates how it is not a security.
Fourth, RVN has a high trading volume. By market cap, Ravencoin is in the top 100, but it ranks even better when sorted by volume traded. The volume varies daily, but one day topped $3.2 billion in trading volume in February 2021. As Coinbase generates revenue primarily from the trading volume, this makes RVN an excellent choice.
Fifth, Ravencoin embodies the spirit of crypto with widely decentralized holdings, a large and active community, and decentralization embedded in its core ethos with KAWPOW mining being designed to be nearly impossible to centralize with ASICs.
Last, but not least, RVN is a crypto-currency that can be used anywhere NOWPayments is used, and at rvnbay.com.
What’s holding it back? As far as I can tell, nothing. The required API has been written, tested, and committed.
